Jefferson Craig Elementary

Welcome! Jefferson Craig Elementary School was built in 1954 and has undergone several renovations/upgrades throughout the years. We take pleasure in educating Kindergarten through 6th grade students.  Our current enrollment is approximately 320 students, with a supporting staff of 30 individuals. We are a true close net rural community that focuses on each and every child.
In 2004 and 2006 Jefferson Craig Elementary was designated as an “Indiana 4-Star School” by the Indiana Department of Education. In addition, the United States Department of Education recognized JC as a 2004-2005 National Blue Ribbon School!
As our Corporation works toward a one-to-one technology initiative, Jefferson Craig Elementary currently has iPads for all 5th and 6th grade students. With this technology comes more ways for student creativity, far reaching digital resources, and more responsibility. In the very near future we hope to be adding all 4th grade students to the list of those achieving through the use of iPads.
Beyond our one-to-one initiative, Jefferson Craig recognizes the importance of the arts. Through weekly special classes students learn music, art, band, library, computer skills, and physical education. We also offer extra-curricular activities such as drama club, Little Hoosiers, student council, math and spell bowl, as well as a variety of sports.
We take the learning process and development of our children very serious; each classroom adapts teaching strategies for High Ability students as well as those who need extra support. This is also accomplished through after school remediation two days a week with limited busing and the local YMCA’s after school program “Top Notch.” This program helps students with homework and then offers a variety of activities for enrichment.
We welcome you to visit our school, to volunteer, make some new friends and become a part of this great community.
